A quality engineer’s CV has to travel better than most. The vocabulary changes at every border: German automotive buyers ask about VDA 6.3, European device makers about EU MDR, UK employers about CQI and IRCA recognition, Gulf contractors about inspection and test plans. The same person, with the same skills, needs a different lead paragraph for each.
The eight examples below are built for those markets. Each shows what to lead with, which standard to name, and how to put a number on the result. A quality engineer designs and maintains the methods that keep a product or project within specification: inspection plans, statistical process control, audits, and corrective action. This page covers manufacturing and project quality engineering, not software testing.
Quality Engineer CV Examples by Career Level and Specialty
Pick the example closest to your stage or sector. Figures are illustrative, so replace them with your own verified numbers and keep the structure. Spelling and currency follow UK and European conventions throughout.
Graduate Quality Engineer
Best for: BEng and MEng graduates, and anyone applying to a graduate scheme or first quality role after a placement year.
This graduate quality engineer CV example makes the placement year do the work: cutting first-pass rejects on an assembly line from 6% to 3.5% with a revised inspection plan, running capability (Cpk) studies on 12 critical characteristics, and completing an ISO 9001 internal auditor course alongside a final-year project on defect analysis.
Automotive Quality Engineer (IATF 16949 and VDA 6.3)
Best for: engineers at automotive suppliers serving European OEMs, where process audits and customer-specific requirements shape the job.
This automotive quality engineer CV example pairs the global standard with the German one: running VDA 6.3 process audits on nine production processes, cutting customer complaints from 24 to 9 a year through 8D and PPAP discipline, and keeping a supplier site compliant with its OEM’s customer-specific requirements.
Why this works:
- VDA 6.3 sits next to IATF 16949, which tells a German hiring manager you know both layers of the system.
- Complaints per year is a figure the customer’s own scorecard would show.
Quality Engineer (Mid-Level, Manufacturing)
Best for: engineers with a few years of ownership over a product family or production area in a UK or European plant.
This mid-level quality engineer CV example leads with controllable results: removing £180,000 a year in scrap cost through root-cause work and SPC, cutting customer complaints by 35%, and running a programme of 24 internal audits to ISO 9001 across three sites.
Why this works:
- Money saved is stated in the reader’s currency, which keeps the claim concrete.
- The audit programme has a size and a scope, so it reads as a managed workload.
Medical Device Quality Engineer (ISO 13485 and EU MDR)
Best for: engineers at device manufacturers selling into the EU, where the regulation and the quality system are inseparable.
This medical device quality engineer CV example shows regulatory fluency: updating technical documentation for 11 devices under Regulation (EU) 2017/745, supporting post-market surveillance reporting, closing 40 CAPAs on time, and hosting a notified body audit that ended with two minor findings and no majors.
Why this works:
- The notified body audit outcome is a verifiable, third-party result.
- Post-market surveillance and CAPA together show you can handle the full device lifecycle.
Senior Quality Engineer
Best for: engineers who lead quality across sites, develop suppliers, and coach junior colleagues.
This senior quality engineer CV example weights scope and influence: reducing the cost of poor quality by £640,000 a year across two sites, running a supplier development programme for five strategic suppliers that halved their rejection rates, and coaching three graduate engineers to full independence.
Lead Auditor / QMS Quality Engineer (CQI-IRCA)
Best for: engineers whose role centres on the management system: audits, document control, corrective action, and certification.
This lead auditor quality engineer CV example puts the credential and the practice side by side: an ISO 9001 lead auditor certificate, a programme of 30 internal and supplier audits a year to ISO 9001 and ISO 19011, and a 45% fall in repeat audit findings after a corrective-action tracking overhaul.
Why this works:
- Repeat-finding rate shows the audits changed behaviour, not just produced reports.
- The credential is named exactly, so a recruiter can check it against the posting.
Quality Manager
Best for: quality engineers moving into management, owning the QMS, the team, and the relationship with the certification body.
This quality manager CV example shows leadership with numbers: managing a team of 12 across two sites, retaining ISO 9001 certification through three consecutive surveillance audits, bringing customer complaints per million parts down by 52%, and starting a gap analysis for the move to ISO 9001:2026.
QA/QC Engineer (Oil & Gas and Construction, Middle East)
Best for: QA/QC engineers on EPC, pipeline, and construction projects in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and neighbouring markets.
This QA/QC engineer CV example speaks the project language: writing inspection and test plans for a pipeline package, lifting first-time weld acceptance from 92% to 97% across 14,000 joints, closing 95% of non-conformance reports within 14 days, and compiling quality handover dossiers for six systems.
How a Quality Engineer CV Changes by Market
The skeleton of a CV barely changes. The standards you name, and the credentials you lead with, change a lot. Use the table to decide what goes into your first half page for the market you are targeting.
| Target market | Standards and terms to mirror | Lead with |
|---|---|---|
| UK and Ireland | ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO 19011, CQI and IRCA recognition | Audit programme, chartered or lead-auditor status, cost saved in pounds |
| German and wider European automotive | IATF 16949, VDA 6.3, customer-specific requirements | Process audit results, customer complaint rate, PPAP and 8D evidence |
| EU medical devices | ISO 13485, Regulation (EU) 2017/745, CAPA, post-market surveillance | Technical documentation scope, notified body audit outcome |
| Gulf projects and construction | Inspection and test plans, non-conformance reports, ISO 9001 lead auditor | Project scale, inspection discipline, handover quality records |
On length, Indeed’s UK guidance for quality engineer CVs advises a maximum of two pages, and says references usually aren’t needed unless an employer asks for them. If you’re not sure about the broader differences, our CV vs resume guide covers them.
Copy-Ready Quality Engineer CV Profiles and Achievement Lines
Lift the structure, and put your own true figures in the brackets.
A graduate personal profile
When your experience is a placement year and a project, say so plainly, then give one result.
Mechanical engineering graduate (MEng, [University]) with a 12-month placement at an automotive supplier, where I cut first-pass rejects on an assembly line from 6% to 3.5%. Trained in SPC, FMEA, and capability studies, with an ISO 9001 internal auditor course completed. Seeking a quality engineer graduate role in [sector/location].
An achievement line for audit-led roles
For lead auditor or QMS roles, show what changed because of the audits.
Ran a programme of [number] internal and supplier audits a year to ISO 9001 and ISO 19011 as a certified lead auditor; reduced repeat findings by [%] by introducing corrective-action tracking with owner and due-date escalation.
An achievement line for QA/QC project roles
Project quality is judged on inspection discipline and closure speed, so give both.
Managed inspection and test plans and NCR closure for a [scope] package; lifted first-time acceptance from [%] to [%] across [number] joints or items and closed [%] of NCRs within [days] days.
Anatomy of a Quality Engineer CV
A CV for this role has four parts that earn their space. The snippets below give each part its working structure.
The header and personal details
Keep it to what an employer needs to reach and place you, and skip anything the posting doesn’t ask for.
[First Last] | Quality Engineer | [IRCA ISO 9001 Lead Auditor / CQI member / Six Sigma Green Belt] | [City, Country] | [email] | [phone] | linkedin.com/in/[handle]
The personal profile
Three or four lines: who you are, your sector, your standards, and one result.
Quality Engineer with [number] years in [sector: automotive / medical devices / aerospace / EPC], responsible for [scope]. Delivered [metric result] through [method]. Experienced in [standards: ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 13485] and in leading audits with [certification body / customers].
The achievements formula
Each role needs three to five bullets, all in the same shape: what you did, how, and what changed.
[Verb] [metric] from [baseline] to [result] across [scope] using [method: SPC, 8D, FMEA, audit programme], [saving £/€ amount or time].
The qualifications and memberships block
Give it its own labelled section, so a recruiter can verify credentials in one glance.
Professional: [CQI and IRCA Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, year] | [CQI membership grade] | [Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, issuer, year]
Education: [MEng/BEng in subject], [University], [year]
Quality Qualifications Employers Recognise Abroad
Credentials matter more on an international CV, because a hiring manager in another country can’t judge your employer’s reputation but can check a certificate. Here is what is worth listing, and what each actually is.
CQI membership and Chartered Quality Professional status
The CQI is the Chartered Quality Institute, and it is incorporated by Royal Charter. It is the body that awards Chartered Quality Professional status, written CQP MCQI for a chartered member. If you hold a grade, put it in the header or the qualifications block, and name the exact grade.
CQI and IRCA lead auditor courses
A CQI and IRCA Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor course, as delivered by training providers such as BSI, is a five-day course followed by a mandatory online exam. Providers are already moving the course to the ISO 9001:2026 edition, so name the edition and year on your certificate exactly. Many Gulf QA/QC postings list an ISO 9001 lead auditor certificate as a requirement, so it is worth a prominent line if you hold one.
ASQ certifications
If you hold an ASQ credential, list it by its exact name. ASQ publishes the eligibility rules, and for the CQE they are: 8 years of on-the-job experience (3 in a decision-making position), reduced by 4 years for a bachelor’s degree or 5 for a master’s, per ASQ. Don’t list a certification you haven’t been awarded yet.
- ISO 9001:2026 was published on 16 September 2026, and organisations certified to ISO 9001:2015 have until 30 September 2029 to transition, per ISO/TC 176.
- Write the edition you actually worked under. Until your employer transitions, that is ISO 9001:2015.
- If you helped with a gap analysis or transition plan, say so, with the scope.
Quality Engineer, QA/QC Engineer, or Quality Assurance Engineer?
Titles shift with the market, and the right one for your CV is the one the employer uses. A quick guide:
- Quality Engineer: a common manufacturing title in the UK and Europe, covering process and product quality.
- QA/QC Engineer: the common title on EPC, oil and gas, and construction projects, where QA covers the system and QC the inspection work.
- Quality Assurance Engineer: used in manufacturing for system-focused roles, but in many companies it now means software testing, so check the posting before you copy it.
Where your own title doesn’t match, put the employer’s wording in your profile line: “Quality Engineer (QA/QC)” does the job without misrepresenting anything. Our chronological CV template suits a career that shows a clear progression like this.

Create CVQuality Engineer CV FAQ
How long should a quality engineer CV be?
For UK applications, two pages is the ceiling Indeed’s UK guidance recommends. Graduates and engineers with under five years of experience can usually fit on one page, and senior engineers can use the second for projects and credentials.
Should I include a photo or date of birth?
Check the norm for the country you’re applying to, and leave both out unless the posting asks for them. Where you’re unsure, look at how the employer’s own postings and local examples handle it before deciding.
Is a CQE or Six Sigma certificate useful if I work outside the US?
They can help, especially at multinational employers, but check what the posting asks for first: in the Gulf postings we reviewed, the ISO 9001 lead auditor certificate came up more often. List any credential with its issuer and year, and back a Six Sigma belt with a real project result.
How do I move from graduate to quality engineer without experience?
Lead with the placement year, project, or lab work that involved measurement and problem solving. Quantify any defect, yield, or inspection result, and add an internal auditor course or a Green Belt in progress, labelled honestly.
How should I list ISO 9001 now that a new edition has been published?
List the edition you worked under, such as ISO 9001:2015, and mention any transition work separately. The 2026 edition is new and the transition period runs to 30 September 2029, so check which edition your employer’s certificate names before you write it down.
